Decode IonCube PHP 8.1 files online
PHP 8.1 was a landmark release: enums, readonly properties, first-class callable syntax, and pure intersection types. IonCube's 8.1-targeted encoders shipped with opcodes for all of these — our decoder maps them back to readable PHP 8.1 source.

PHP 8.1 at a glance
- Released
- November 2021
- End of life
- November 2024
- Zend engine
- Zend Engine 4 (major rewrite for PHP 8)
- IonCube encoders that target it
- IonCube 13 was the first release with full PHP 8.1 support. IonCube 14 and 15 target 8.1 as well.
What PHP 8.1 introduced
Decoders for PHP 8.1 need to reconstruct opcodes for these language features specifically:
- Enums (enum Suit { case Hearts; })
- Readonly properties
- First-class callable syntax (strlen(...))
- Pure intersection types (Countable&Stringable)
- Never return type
- new in initializers (public function __construct(private Logger $log = new NullLogger()))
- Fibers (low-level coroutines)
Why PHP 8.1 decoding still matters
- PHP 8.1 was the first stable PHP 8.x release widely adopted by hosts — many apps transitioned here first.
- Enterprise migrations away from PHP 7.x typically landed on 8.1 (LTS target) before jumping further.
- Libraries that adopted enums early ship encoded against 8.1 specifically.
Gotchas specific to decoding PHP 8.1
- Enum opcodes are entirely new in 8.1 — you cannot decode enum-using files with a pre-8.1 decoder.
- Readonly properties add a new ZEND_ACC_READONLY flag; some early IonCube 13 builds had bugs emitting this correctly.
- First-class callable syntax compiles to Closure::fromCallable under the hood; decoded output should preserve the (...) sugar where possible.
File signature
An IonCube-encoded file targeting PHP 8.1 typically begins with a header that looks like this:
<?php //004fb4a5\n<?php //PHP81+\nHR+cPkX...The first line encodes a header hash, the second encodes the PHP target, and the remainder is the encrypted bytecode payload. Our free in-browser version detector reads these bytes to identify the exact encoder and PHP target for your file.
